not to equate things as the arent equal, but indentured servitude was a thing as well as debt servitude among other similar things. Those things were similar to slavery except they (in theory) had an end. Now we know how things work in reality and it seems fair to assume some indentured servants never actually got out of it due to various grift. whites could definately end up as indentured servants.

theres a good part in Ready Player One (movie) where the ceo guy is showing how many more ads they can cram imto your field of view and you can still see. Was like 60 or 80% of the visual area. Unfortunately that example is how most advertising heads think. Just cram more and more ads on screen makimg the thing you are trying to do impossible or unusable

I’ve had poor luck with most portables. The original Pax was decent but stopped working shortly after its warranty ended. I had various cheap ones from local shops. I also had a launchbox which was ok but also broke pretty quickly.
Now as for “desktop” vapes. I have had an original (non digital) Volcano for years with just a few problems. I did have to send it back once to get fixed as it would just heat up to top level regardless of the knob settings. I also had some issues with the switches for the fan, but they are cheap toggle switches that I was able to buy on amazon for a couple $ and replace myself (twice in 5 or so years).
I hope to get a portable of some kind when the volcano eventually dies. Might go with a Crafty or a Mighty from the same company that makes the volcano (STORZ & BICKEL)

i know it was some time in 2002. idk what my first linux distro was tbh, but i quckly returned to windows. Then Shortly after i took a dive off the deep end to try to really learn linux some and spent days installing gentoo on some probably 400-600 mhz single core box (was in college at the time). That while being pretty painful overall, was a good learning experience. I was in school for computer aided drafting, got my assiciates, and here i am 20 years later as a devops engineer. I am comfortable with the big 3 os’s, tho mac would be my weakest. Gaming keepa bringing me back to a home windows desktop tho. Actuallt just set up a usb stick with nix plasma to check out this weekend as i think im missing the train on nix
