Hey Lads was having a heated discussion with my mates over who u would rather have on your team, me being a newcastle fan am delighted in having gordon and think he has been exceptional for newcastle at the start of the season and really had a breakthrough u21’s euros with england and was arguably their best player in the tournament. However haven’t seen enough of cole palmer to really intrigue me is a great talent for sure and my friends were adamant he is better than gordon but want to get second opinions on it.

Gordon is more of a winger imo while Palmer is more creative in the middle but can play as winger if needed.

Simple really, who has the more punchable face? Anthony Gordon in my book. Therefore I’d rather have Cole Palmer on my team.

It’s a question if you prefer the fast and direct or calculated and slow approach. I’m a biased Newcastle fan but I do prefer my wingers direct. Wish we bought both lol

Tbf Palmer doesn’t have the physical speed of Gordon but he’s actually been really direct for Chelsea, He usually does it more with his passing but he can dribble too as that chance he made for himself dribbling through the middle of Man City on Sunday shows.

Think Palmer has actually been more of a central player than winger so far as well so I don’t think they’re the right players for comparison either. They could play together in a hypothetical 11, and may end up doing so for England in the future.

Horses for courses as already alluded too.

For us Palmer was the better fit as we’re rightly or wrongly hoping Mudryk eventually becomes the fast, direct winger.

They are both two completely different styles of player, Gordon uses his pace really well while Palmer is the better technical player.

Cole Palmer is getting a lot of praise for being a pen merchant. I can’t work out if it’s over hype or the British pundits and media doing their usual “build ‘em up to drag em down” stunt.

If you watch us play you’d see that’s not the case, for example the first half against Brentford everything basically went through him and we should’ve gone into HT with the lead. He gets plaudits because he’s good a people, you then get lazy people like yourself who just assume he scores penalties hence the plaudits.

Plus considering Bruno was getting similar plaudits when he first joined for the same thing as you’re suggesting it wouldn’t then be a British thing.

Palmer. Although Gordon is a crack of a player, love his tenacity. Palmer oozes confidence and is very smooth. He’s gonna be a star they both are

It depends on what your team needs.

For Newcastle I think Gordon is a much better fit because we play with that high tempo high press system that suits Gordon perfectly.

For England, I can see why Palmer’s been selected ahead of Gordon, because we need someone who can slot into that #10 type role in the absence of Madison and Bellingham. If those 2 were fit and the injuries had been to wide players (especially on the left) then we might have seen Gordon get a callup instead

Palmer is one of the best pressers i’ve seen. he’s not that athletic but he seems to create a chance solely through his own pressing intelligence at least once a game.

But i do agree they’re different players and this is kind of a silly comparison
