If I ever find myself as a defendant in a fraud trial, maybe I should try repeatedly insulting the judge, prosecutor, and clerk and calling them names, just to see what happens next. Wanna bet I’d find my ass in jail with a contempt charge? Every day, Trump shows there really is a two-tiered justice system.

Trump keeps claiming that he’s being treated differently by the justice system. He means that he’s being treated worse and he’s wrong about that, but he is accidentally correct in that he’s being treated better than any other defendant would be treated. If you or I were facing 10% of the charges Trump is facing, we’d (rightfully) be sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial.

I don’t expect a former president to get the same treatment as me. I expect them to have it better since our nation somewhat depends on them not being treated better.

Especially currently, the judges are very smart in not pursuing apt punishment for his small infractions. Their eye is on the ultimate justice here. Because small punishments only stoke the fires. Small punishments make this look petty and weak and as if they want to get him for anything and everything.

Will people still think that? Yes. But the image of these particular cases is far more important to justice than violations of gag orders.

Just keep that in mind. Going after him for every small thing is more likely to cause further injustice in the nation if he wins election.

It’s like he doesn’t realize performing for his fans will cost him his entire business empire. Bizarre.

I think what the OP is referring to is that Trump HASN’T had any real repercussions for acting the way he has, whereas a ‘normal’ person would have ended up with charges by now.

I wasn’t disagreeing. I was saying I have no idea why he thinks this won’t piss off the judge even more beyond plain stupidity (which might be all it is) and it’s not a jury trial. The company has already been found liable. The more he pisses off the judge, the more likely the judge will end his business empire.

So maybe he’s an idiot and thinks he’ll get away with it this time, but he already hasn’t gotten away with it. He’s already past that point in this trial.

I hate giving Trump credit for anything but I think this may be calculated to some extent. He knows his business is toast in NY and knows he was already found liable. His constant back and forth with the court is to get the fine as high as possible. His followers will see it as the courts going after their guy. They will not care he was found liable already because the evidence was so overwhelming the judge even in the most favourable terms saw no chance for him to win the case. All they will see is the judge extracting a huge fine because he is a a NY judge. They will blame Biden or liberals or the deep state. Never the one person that is truely at fault.

This is the same play as Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, and Roger Stone.

No he didn’t. He won’t lose a penny in the foreseeable future.

This case is going to be held up on appeals for years. Appellate courts are going to stay the decision while the appeals play out, and Trump will drag those appeals out for as long as possible. Trump himself will be long dead before this case is actually settled. And sure, the Trump organization will lose their main source of revenue. His own kids will likely be severely impacted. But he himself will not suffer any tangible consequences. The fact that everybody else loses? That’s their problem.

I would guess it’s about as calculated as a fish swimming. The guy has simply always done this in all situations, and it has never not worked, so why would he stop. It’s like the world-record run of playing “Do you know who I am?” with the police officer.
