That is the big oddity.
Yes, it isn’t very smart. I would guess the machine probably isn’t operational at the moment.
I mean, the machine has likely been off for at least a week. Which means it is a big hunk of metal in a reinforced room. Sounds like the kind of “last stand” that requires destruction of significant parts of the hospital.
If they don’t have fuel for generators, I wouldn’t expect them to have liquid nitrogen or whatever coolant they use for the superconducting magnets in the MRI.
