I always considered the F80 to be one of the worst M3s ever made. Love the design of course, but most reviews for the F80 generation lauded its styling and power, but considered it sterile and its steering feels nonexistent. This is something I noticed as well when I had the chance to drive one for a week. The G80 M3, while aesthetically polarizing, is considered a better return to form from a driving dynamics perspective.
All that said, I’d go for the m340i if it were me choosing a daily.
The F80 is probably the best M3 ever made, or at least top 2. But, the M340i is one of the best sedans BMW has ever made.

I had a similar decision, but mine had in mind a baby on the way so I went with the much more family friendly M340I
If I was single for the foreseeable, I was thinking of either the M3 or an old R8

F80 is great but it’s not top 2. It may be the best modern one but e30 and e46 are probably the top two.
