I can’t wait for all credits on EV purchases to end. The only people benefiting are the people who don’t need the help. Meanwhile the lower income people are indirectly financing the vehicle purchases of their wealthy fellow man.
It is true that the EV tax credit was originally passed by Congress because some did not want it to cost as much as an tax refund AND it benefited the wealthy. Understandable since wealthy folx pay 💰 politicians lots of dollars to do that exact thing.
BUT in 2022 when Biden revised the language and renewed the EV tax credit for another decade, they did introduce income limits and cost of vehicle limits that really screwed it up for wealthy buyers who already enjoyed a full decade to spend taxpayers money on insanely expensive cars for themselves.
The used car and 2024 point of sale chess moves that Biden added REALLY start making EVs for the very first time almost affordable for real people.
Not just the tax credits, but also import tariffs on certain vehicles. Here in Canada, incentives are applied to all cars the same regardless of country of origin, and we have minimal import tariffs on vehicles. As a result, a Model 3, BMW i4, Polestar 2 and Ioniq 6 are pretty much all the same price.
Teslas are NOT affordable except if able to get full IRS tax credit that Biden rescued from ending.
In Europe plenty of affordable sedans even made by American companies.
In US people like to pay a far bigger profit margin for larger hatchbacks if called SUV.
