Thinking about getting a EV. Just curious why you got yours. The reasons I can think of are:
- Environmentally friendly 🌵
- Cheaper Fuel ⚡️
- They are cool/trendy 😎
- Lower maintenance 🔧
Is there anything surprising that you found out after you bought it?

Gas. $6.799/gal. Electricity $0.08/kwh.
Don’t forget. Current gas car: 0$, EV:40k$
Wow where do you live?
Those numbers make an EV almost a no brainer.
Uk leccy is hitting £0.29 /kwh fml
Cries in 0.3-0.6€ / kwh
Our electricity is much more expensive because we have to pay “penalty rates” for excessive consumption (two EVs in the household). That brings the price up to almost $0.10 per kWh! - the horror! :)
By my math (comparing $/mile of EV versus equivalent gasoline car), I drive for the equivalent fuel cost of gasoline at $0.87 / gallon.
I’m in Connecticut. Electricity is 26 cents /kwH. This is why I got solar.
Solar is a big reason I want an EV. Turn my 3.75 / gallon into nothing.
According to my spreadsheet, with gasoline at $3.75 / gallon, your break-even point (not including maintenance savings) with an EV would be electricity at $0.39 / kWh. So, even if you paid $0.26 / kWh, you’d still be saving money on fuel.
oh for sure. I’m just saying, with panels installed this month, it’s like: OK GIVE ME AN EV NOW
$0.06/kwh in my area (super off peak 10pm - 6am)
Just curious what do you think is the percentage of cars are EV where you live ? Very unsual price discrepancy between gas and electricity. Will get real “gas savings”.
Saves me from having to get gas.
This seems like a big one for me
