Trademark fillings for the iM3 name have been found. But it also looks like an iM3 and M3 might be on sale at the same time
If they can keep the weight down on this, I think it’ll sell to the North American market without issue. They just have to translate the performance that M is built on to this electric platform without sacrificing too much more than the beloved engine note.
Gross
If they’re not manufacturing an iM3 until it’s as good as the current gas powered, it’s years off if ever.
Until and or unless an iM3 can reach and more importantly, maintain 155 mph as well as track day being an equivalent experience to gas engine running all day long…it’s not happening.
If they’re planning on selling both at the same time, it’s still plausible. People who buy EV’s dont really care much about track performance anyways, as long as it has some impressive straight line acceleration that will be good enough for the EV crowd.
The ICE is for the enthusiast, the EV is for the guy who wants a daily driver thats not as boring as Tesla.
Maybe, but realistically, how many M cars actually get tracked? There isn’t much info out there but I’d highly doubt it’s more than 25%; and even that’s generous
There are rumors it will have quad motors and could make 1000 kw (about 1300 hp). https://electrek.co/2023/09/13/first-electric-bmw-m3-confirmed-quad-motor-ev-powerhouse/
Will it tip 6000 lbs?
EV issues aside, M is very different than what it was founded on. I have no problem with an M EV, or even how M has evolved. Everything needs to. For me, i think I have owned my last BMW. An electric M lineup is inevitable and most of us accepted it a couple of years ago.
