The Eragon and Artemis Fowl books had a similar charm to Harry Potter for me.
Percy Jackson. Kids grouped in various “houses/cabins” at “school/camp” save the world because the main character is a chosen one. They’re fun
I have a few very good fanfics to recommend you, if you’re ok with that.
Nah i am done with fanfic (and emotianally scarred) after reading the cursed child.
I think discounting all of fanfic because of the objectively awful cursed child is a mistake, there’s a lot of good stuff from talented writers out there
There are loads of fanfics which are much better than The Play Which Must Not Be Named. If that was your first (or only) exposure to fanfic, I can see how you would be scarred.
My go-to recommendation is Grave Days (FFN and SIYE), by Northumbrian.
It picks up immediately after the battle (right down to Kreacher’s sandwiches) and consists of 15 chapters that are canon compliant to the books. Northumbrian (in my opinion) comes closest to nailing JKR’s writing style, while also incorporating some excellent worldbuilding.
Northumbrian
Excellent author
If you want to give it a try, there is the very good Victoria Potter series: https://archiveofourown.org/works/13795605/chapters/31714617
Victoria Potter had always known she was different. No matter how hard her Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia tried to pretend otherwise, she could do things they couldn’t, and see things they wouldn’t.
It was only when Professor McGonagall of Hogwarts School came to visit that she realised just how different she was. Sorted into Slytherin, in her first year at Hogwarts school she would find true friends, learn magic, and discover the secrets of the Houses of Hogwarts.
Magically talented, Slytherin fem!Harry. AU world with a canonical tone. No rehash of the stations of canon. No bashing. No kid politicians. No 11-year-old romances.
Another great recommendation is The Changeling: https://archiveofourown.org/works/189189/chapters/278342
Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.
The style is very good, and the story quite fascinating.
Finally, if you are into next generation stuff, Questions and Answers: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3954448/1/Questions-and-Answers
When the past and present collide with the Potter/Weasley children… A bit AU with characters’ names and some pairings.
Some of it made it to my headcannon.
Let me know if some of them were interesting to you!
“The Wheel of Time” series if you aren’t afraid of commitment 😂
How?
WoT has nothing in common with HP.
HP: Shoddy world building, lovely characterizations, limited cast of characters (1 PoV, 90% is just the golden trio etc), nonsensical magic system with arbitrary rules subject to change at any time, engaging writing style
WoT: Meticulous, careful and detailed world and universe building, obscure/indirect characterizations, expansive cast of characters (the first book has like 6 or 7 PoVs and it only gets more with every book and there is like 600 named characters with text and repeat appearances who you have to remember or you won’t understand anything…), combination of 2 orthogonal magic systems that interact in very specific ways, a writing style that murders unpracticed readers by the page (just the other day I read a scene where three dialogs are going on simultaneously, half the participants names start with A and the PoV character is half listening to all those conversations without mentioning who is saying what)
If you like Harry Potter do not go to WoT next!
Jesus, passionate aren’t we?
Pendragon by Dj Machale, long series like Harry Potter that grows up with the reader as the series goes on and becomes more adultish and darker. It’s similar main character plot of a kid who was nothing to becoming the hero. It’s my favorite series ever!
The Summoner by Taran Matharu, also very similar zero to hero story, but also very fantasy where a peasant worthless kid gets inducted into a magic arts school and also becomes a very important hero. It’s story is actually very interesting
Can I recommend The massive DiscWorld series by Terry Pratchett. It is a longshore, because in this case there are several storyline, in one universe mixed together - but what you may like is the “silly universe of magic” which highlights some absurdity in our own world. There is one storyline which shows character grow in a world of witches that is most relevant, but there plenty of others to enjoy.
Pendragon really flew under the radar compared to similar YA fantasy series. So underrated!
It really did! I actually cried a few times while reading the series when important people died 🥲
If you like Harry Potter, hate JK and her transphobic bullshit, don’t want to support her and like actual good writing and storytelling far beyond anything she’s capable & would love to morally experience that Potter nostalgia of I very happily present to you:

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality
An absolute joy and maybe my favorite book I’ve ever read.
Roughly 120 something chapters, with the link above fully voice acted decently on Spotify. PDFs can also easily be found online.
Thanks for sharing!
HPMOR is quite polarizing, some like it, others don’t, but at least it exists
If you are a fan of JKrowling then check out these other books written by transphobes
Not a fan of her but fan of the harry potter series yes.
Interesting way to completely miss your point indeed

Thanks. Gonna go read some of these.
Edit: what a shitty list. None of these are fiction. Send a better list
