You don’t use TikTok for privacy concerns.
I don’t use TikTok for both privacy concerns and cringe concerns.
We are (50%) not the same

You say that like you’ve ever patched your router.
Lol is this a thing that I’m supposed to be doing? I’m not used to being around such a high proportion of tech people, and I’m struggling to tell when you all are taking the piss
You aren’t around a high proportion of tech people, you’re around a few tech people and a bunch of paranoid ex-Redditors. The amount of tech misinfo here is as bad as Reddit, so probably not a good idea to assume everyone here is smarter than you when they’re just on the first peak of a Duning-Kruger chart.
New routers will usually update automatically, especially for security fixes, but still not a bad idea to take a quick look to make sure.
I mean I’m being kind of tongue in cheek, but it’s actually an important aspect of home network security that often gets overlooked. Your router is the central gateway to all the devices on your home network, it’s a valuable target. Russia at least has been known to launch cyberattacks targeting routers, so if we’re worried about getting swept up in nation-state cyber shit, probably the bare minimum is to keep your router up-to-date and not leave known vulns unpatched.
In reality getting hit with a foreign cyber attack meant to harm whatever nation state claims you is probably low on your list of things to worry about, but hey, have you considered patching your router lately?

Plot twist: uses a xiaomi phone
Another plot twist: without default OS
Tankies in these comments crying “whuh about bad 'murica!?”
“All right, then” gets your secrets from one of the other 30 apps with ties to China you’re using
Or just buying your data from US based companies, almost every app (even ones that say they don’t) collect so much unrelated data for the parent company to sell. Why does McDonalds need to passively collect my network carrier, screen resolution, birthday, or gps coordinates?
Get the duckduckgo app, enable the tracking protection, and cringe at the hundreds of thousands of tracking attempts that your apps are giving. I had 200,000 tracking attempts blocked in the past 7 days alone (not including time I had the tracking protection off)
If want to know about me, ask USA, I won’t tell you
I think this might be my favorite meme. I love when people find new excuses to use it.
Nooooo
First time in my life I’ve ever felt “old” was finding out how widely used tik tok is. Never used or even seen the fucking thing
I don’t think China wants to know how often i make videos of me taking a dump…
Poo Bear has entered the chat
I heard it was actually a dude from Singapore that started it. I’ll never use it, so I’m not too sure if they have any obligations to china aside from what is used in a china, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are plenty of American companies hanging out with tencent, like blizzard.
I don’t download it because I have an addictive personality. But it kinda feels like our digital privacy has been thrown out the window no matter what you do
If you believe privacy exists in any developed nation in 2023 🤣
Privacy is as extinct as lamplighters, or the social contract.
Fortunately for you, you almost certainly aren’t very interesting, especially if you’re the type concerned about such things. Multiple governments and very likely multiple corporations know roughly how many guns you own, the kind of porns you’re into, whether you’re likely to cause a scene at some point in your life, etc.
There’s still privacy in the deep forest if it’s that important to you, but the Wifi sucks. Life is trade offs.
And as for whether my government that oppresses me or another government that oppresses their people have that data, whoopdie doo villains the world over have a profile on lil old me. A modern peasant not born into wealth/power having agency or a voice in such things is an illusion.
I get my privacy from Nord VPN. Click the link in the description to get 69% off a 5 year commitment. THanKs NorD VpN!
Hmm, I don’t know… Maybe it’s a fantasy but I trust my country (US) to at least somewhat have my interests at heart, if for no other reason than mutual self-interest and absolutely nothing else. I can’t say the same for China. I do think they have nefarious purposes. Not only that, but there’s some chance of discovering what US companies are up to. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how one would obtain information about what Chinese companies are doing, they’re basically an extension of the CCP, which has gone off the deep end, sadly, at least in my fairly uninformed opinion.
5 stages of grief, stage 1. ^
No governmennt care about you, buddy.
No, but mine is slightly more likely to engage in mutual self-interest than China is, as I argued in my previous comment. The US ain’t perfect, but China is far less so.
“Maybe it’s a fantasy but I trust my country (US) to at least somewhat have my interests at heart”
I mean, they might, but that depends entirely on your net worth, and if you have to ask how much, they don’t.
If your last name is Walton or Buffet though, both major parties will gladly suck on your genitals personally.
