Your router is the central gateway to all the devices on your home network, it’s a valuable target. Russia at least has been known to launch cyberattacks targeting routers, so if we’re worried about getting swept up in nation-state cyber shit, probably the bare minimum is to keep your router up-to-date and not leave known vulns unpatched.

In reality getting hit with a foreign cyber attack meant to harm whatever nation state claims you is probably low on your list of things to worry about, but hey, have you considered patching your router lately?
