What’s a good way to ask someone on a social media app if they’re a MAP without other people figuring it out? I saw an elderly man going off about how unfairly people were treating a minor online and how he wanted that young boy to know he had allies. It was a very impassioned speech and gave me big MAP vibes, but I couldn’t figure out how to ask “Are you a MAP?” in a way that wouldn’t get me harassed and likely even banned. It’s pitiful that the only way we can publicly talk about MAPs is with hatred and bigotry and that we need to use roundabout ways of identifying each other, but that’s how things are right now. How would/do you go about it?

Usually I wouldn’t say to beat around the bush but in these cases you kind of have to. Try to become friends with him, gauge his reactions. You could strike up a conversation about how minors are treated on social media since that’s what got your attention, say that what he’s doing is a good thing and maybe have an in depth conversation about it. Maybe entertain youthlib to him. If you’re comfortable around eachother you can go from there and maybe get into other, more sensitive topics

In highschool, I used to doodle the girl love symbol on my notebooks and casually keep them open on front of people I was curious about. The symbols aren’t that wildly spread, so the knowledge of them required to recognize them on-sight generally is a good indicator. And if someone recognizes it in a bad way, it’s easy enough to deny as just a design you thought was cool
