Woke up this week to about 15 really abusive replies from about 3 different account. All over something I’ve described as a personal experience. I’ve been called a “liar” and “a c***” just for describing that.
I went to block and realised I cannot. Team Youtube say this feature has been removed. What is it with these websites going Twitter/Reddit and actively making their site not just worse but harmful?
actively making their site not just worse but harmful?
Because it leads to more of what they euphemistically call engagement. Angry and obsessed people are great for engagement.
They do not care about you just that the line keeps going up.
Nobody is watching the ads. They’re all too busy abusing the hell out of each other.
youtube does not care if you watch the adds. They get paid to serve the adds. More engagement, more adds served.
If they’re commenting under your videos, you can tap the three dots next to one of their comments and select “hide user from channel”. That’s the closest you can get to blocking now. There’s probably some third-party browser extension or uBO filter that can hide users, too.
It’s ridiculously shitty that YouTube has removed its block feature.
That doesnt work when they’re attacking your character on other videos and channels. And you cant hide their comments from others on your own videos, I checked with teamyoutube and they confirmed it just hides it from yourself.
I figured the first part, but you mean to tell me that hiding people doesn’t even hide their comments from others on your own videos?!! What even is the point, then?!!!? How can the YouTube staff even sleep at night?!?!???!
Yep thats what they tlold me.
Have you tried this?
It says
You can hide particular viewers from the rest of your channel’s audience.
As I said earlier - that does not stop them replying from other videos, or hide their comments from other users on your channel.
I just tried it myself. Both individual comment removals and account hides work fine. Did you actually try checking if it works?
I’ve heard other creators talk about moderating their comments, surely there’s a way to do that
You likely can get them booted from the iPhone App Store, just report them for violating this policy.
Google owns them so doubt it for the playstore. I dont have access to apple.
Negative engagement is still engagement which bumps the numbers. Big numbers = more cash.
They might say that, but nobody remembers any ads. I certainly dont. I was too distracted by being called a “c***” all these times 🤷♂️
Adverts are kind of irrelevant in this case as with most Google tiers they get payed for a view not a click.
There are many examples where ad spots genuinely become toxic. For example, in the lead-up to Glenn Beck being canceled from Fox, they couldn’t even give away the ad spots. Remaining a sponsor was losing the advertiser sales, so they all pulled out.
Twitter right now is having trouble selling ads, because of the likelihood it will be shown next to fascist/white supremacist/hate speech, etc.
Find or start a boycott group to avoid buying products advertised on hate-based platforms. Find a separate BUYcott list to support companies that sever those ties.
Money talks; make yours say what you want it to.
You must learn to shit talk back. If someone insults you, insult them back. None of that turn the other cheek hippy dippy shit. Learn good insults. Find their weakness and attack it. Adopt the ways of the Old Gods and warcrimes. Show no mercy and give no quarter.
