I know that a lot of people prefer Nicotine over the original Soulseek client. While it’s definitely more stable (especially on Linux) and arguably more attractive, I’ve always switched back to the original client because Nicotine gives me way fewer search results, and I’ve noticed that a lot of my “regulars” don’t show up in my uploads list.
Anyone else have similar experiences? Any tips for making Nicotine work better?
I used it for many years but have more recently switched to slskd, which is a game changer for me.
Honestly no idea about searches and queues, I can usually find what I want.
I had tried to set up slskd a month or two ago and was on the verge of tears trying to get it configured. I decided to give it another go, and it actually seems to be working now! We’ll see once it gets my files indexed, but the fact that it even found my files is progress. So, uh, thanks for reminding me!
And yeah, it will absolutely be a game changer for me as well. I can’t leave my laptop running all the time, but my raspberry pi is a different story.
I was struggling too…ended up being I had a space or a tab or something in the yml config file and everything just worked…I was messing about with symlinks, remounting drives under /home and it was all due to one blank space in the config I think.
I’ve got navidrome on my pi too and Symfonium & Tailscale on my Android…awesome to be able to grab tracks, in flac, anywhere in the world and immediately stream them back using MP3 or ogg.
Yeah, it’s super finicky, It also took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to download from the search results. This is cool though, I’m really stoked I finally got this working!
Glad to hear.
Had similar struggles, but glad I pushed though.
Between my Android phone, pi & stereo I now have music on the go and in the house that can beat what I had with Windows, Limewire, stereo & a 20GB ipod classic ~2003. Better late than never.
if you put on a Nicotine patch before you go to sleep you’ll have amazing nightmares.
I like how it has better queue handling, but it doesn’t mean anything when apparently nobody can connect to me
I noticed the same thing the very first time I used nicotine+ after using qt.
Now that you’ve mentioned it I’m going to switch back to qt
Same for me, Nicotine looks ok but connectivity is terrible compared to the original client.
