Regarding depth, absolutely. Starting 11? Longstaff has been better than him so far.
Issue with Tonali is that it moves a very good 6 in Bruno G and shoves him to the 8 position where he just does not look as good in.

A lot easier for Rice to be the 6 in our system than the 8.
The 6 is a more demanding position. There are less quality players available in that position.
The 8 in our system can be played by many depending on the need.

Where the team looks stagnant to me is when we receive passes from the back line. Most of the time the ball seems to go straight back to them. I know as a viewer we have the advantage of seeing the whole field so it’s easy to be critical, but I’d love to see us turn upfield a bit more often and see if we can find some open space on the carry. There’s a bit of a hole where a team often places their #10 for us.

We have a handful of players knocking on the door of World Class status and Ødegaard is one of them. The Norwegian Prince will rise again.
Gabriel Jesus even without his shooting boots is a top top player but if he somehow turns into a clinical finisher or one goal a game striker, it’s a top 5 player in the world potential right there.
One goal a a game striker is Haaland/Ronaldo levels. You’re not getting that from Jesus but 15-20 goals in all competitions is definitely doable.
There’s one goal a game striker currently in football and that’s Haaland lol. Think if he can get 1 in 2 then that’s still going to be 25+ goals if he can stay fit!
Yeah I realize I got a bit overboard, probably something between 0.5 and 0.75 goals a game – along with his overall impact on the game – would propel him to those top 5 player in the world heights.
For sure! Maybe 1 goal contribution so goal/assist would be closer to realistic!

Havertz didn’t really do much yesterday, don’t think he won any aerial duels. Play wasn’t really going down his side though to be fair.

The way people talk about last year compared to this year you’d swear we never had a close match and scored 4 goals in every half.
We were more “exciting” gave people energy. Now we are more poised and mature and trending City like in our management of game phases and people don’t like it. Sevilla rarely had any chances yesterday. Last season we’d have looked a little more fluid offensively but more shaky defensively.
I think its just expectations. Last season we werent really expected to be as good as we were so now this year people are expecting it. Though you’re right about this sub, unless we are just thrashing teams people seem to complain about the most nit-picky stuff. Its as if no one has even experienced a tight CL away tie. We won and you’d hardly have known it scrolling through that post match thread.
Ya expectations are through the roof. I’ve seen people talking about us ‘getting revenge’ for heavy defeats in the past too. Like the Man United game , I saw a few people talking about we should pay them back for the 8-2. Or the Chelsea game too, Chelsea have improved a lot from last season (probably the worst team we faced when they were under Lampard). Yet people were talking about it like an easy 3-0 win. There really has been much to suggest we should walk most games too. So then people’s expectations are these easy wins and it’s never the case.
It’s a bit like Odegaard too, he has 2 poor games and people want him dropped but there’s no real alternative for him. Vieira seems to be dropped down the pecking order a bit and I’m not sure you really drop your captain for 2 poor games.
