As we begin the holiday season, we have been inundated with the usual array of snowy TV car ads, from the usual suspects: Lexus, Lincoln, Honda, Acura, Toyota, and Hyundai, to name a few. One company seems conspicuously absent: Mazda.

I know Mazda is a small company, but it seems that I would be difficult to grow their brand, especially in a premium direction, if they choose not to participate.

So…where are the Mazda holiday car ads?

I am in Australia and Mazda is putting ads on YouTube consistently. Make sure you watch car related videos, have no ad blocker (essentially on phones) and without YouTube Premium.

    Depends on your location…

on thanksgiving I saw a few Ramsey Mazda commercials. Also those that know what they want aren’t going to be moved by commercials

That’s funny, I was scoping out a car there online a few weeks back. They are sadly a 3 hour drive from me

In the age of streaming, far less people have cable or watch network tv where commercial ads hit their target audience. Marketing budgets are far more skewed towards social media ads.

      You’re probably right.

But the competition seems to think that a robust television presence is still very worthwhile. And I just wonder if TV ads might build long-term, lasting brand image better than targeted streaming.

I used to love the zoom-zoom commercials. It’s crazy that a tag line started so long ago and on TV when I was a kid stuck with me for so many years and also made me like the brand and buy 4 Mazdas so far lol. Obviously I love the product as well. That being said, I cut the cable cord many years ago. I have seen tons of Mazda ads on YouTube and Instagram tho.

I’m sure I saw a TV ad, but it was barely memorable. Not as distinctive as the old Zoom-Zoom ads.

Mazda has run major American network television campaigns regularly in recent years.

Those annoying holiday ads tend to be associated with seasonal discounts and promotions, likely to move out inventory in advance of new model year inventory coming in. You’ll note that even the high end brands like Lexus emphasize price in their winter ads, not product features or specific models. Luxury brands also target an older demographic more likely to still watch television. And the sort likely to give a brand new luxury car as a Christmas present. Don’t know about you but that ain’t my family.

Mazda can’t keep most models in stock right now. Maybe they don’t need to move out inventory by advertising discounts and rebates? I would surely expect to see a heavy advertising push for the CX-90 very soon.

This makes sense to me in the US market. Mazda is competing for mid to full-size crosser market share. It’s a crowded field of competition. For the actual cars (Mazda 3 and Miata) it’s pretty niche now, and advertising is kind of a waste of money. Enthusiasts know what they want
