A gun is still the tool of a revolution and a revolution is the tool to fight climate change

Maybe the genie was espousing the perfect adventurist plot and target that would truly get the masses to rise this time before it got redacted. On the other hand the genie probably told the character they needed to organize and maybe even recited multiple entire audiobooks before it got removed.

Well, if that’s what was needed to give them the power to stop climate change, then the genie was capable of doing it. Or the genie might have just given book recommendations so good they had to be redacted to avoid giving meme readers resources of forbidden knowledge.

Supposedly that book doesn’t really cover the actual methods very well. Some books, for those interested that could be worth checking out are George Hayduke’s books (The one on making a silencer), Practical Scap Metal Arms, Prof Parabellum collection, some of the US army field manual books. If anyone has any other suggestions let me know

Oh shucks, you’re right, I guess we’d better just try doing nothing at all instead and hope that works. Or we could “vote” away climate change. Sure, our governments keep ignoring the public in favour of big oil companies, but maybe if we just vote harder they might finally listen to us.

The only period of diminishing atmospheric Co2 concentration in recent history was the COVID lockdown, so halting production and destroying wealth seems to work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Halting production made erode the wealth of some, but running around shooting rich people isn’t going to do jack shit for the environment.

The halting of production and travel led to decreased CO2, not rich people being less rich.

And if you were paying attention, the people who were able to solved people’s problems during that time got more rich. It’s almost like people pay other people to help solve their problems… and those problem solvers get rich. Whoever can solve the energy problems will end up insanely rich, and can do so while helping the environment. These things aren’t mutually exclusive.

we are not suggesting running around and shooting billionaires, that’s not a revolution, the Bolsheveik revolution didn’t just assassinate the Tsar, there was more.

if saving nature is profitable, why isn’t there an insanely rich person who solved global warming yet?

You can’t just paint targets and hope their absense will make things better; you have to have ultimatums, so that they and their peers have incentive to change.

            They’re working on it.

Shit, before Elon got distracted by Twitter he was the richest person by starting an electric car company to try and keep earth alive long enough to get people to another planet through his other company SpaceX. So you can say there is already an insanely rich person who got that way from trying to help with global warming.

But it’s not magic. Ideas still need to exist. Technology still needs to exist or be invested, and impact takes time. If someone discovered some power source that provided all the benefits of fossil fuels, without the downsides, that could work at scale regardless of the environment. They’d be a trillionaire within 10 years.

He didn’t start Tesla, he bought his way in. The guy hasn’t had a single original thought in his life. He just invests in companies that sound cool to him, he doesn’t give a shit about the future or the current state of humanity. And he stole that wealth by exploiting the people that work for him. Stop idolizing wealthy people.

Adding to this, he tried to do the whole “X” thing at PayPal and they removed him from his board position because of it. Fortunately for him, he had already bought in with his generational wealth and was able to simply fail upwards from there.

Lemmygrad is a Marxist-Leninist instance, commies or Tankies or whatever you know it as, if you’re interested in like learning about it and discussing it you’re free to do so, but Capitalist apoligia isn’t allowed here.

The only solution rich people have come up with is lying and pretending normal people are responsible so they will buy greenwashed products that won’t make much an impact. Individual electric cars are highly energy intensive and rely on metals mined by child labor, the real solution (accessible public transit) is simply not profitable, the car lobby won’t allow it. The other solution they have is pumping chemicals into the sky to bleach it and artificially block the sun. Is that really what we want? The US military is the number one polluter, when’s it going to be profitable to end them? It won’t because militarism is where the money’s at. Also, rich people didn’t deal with Covid because of their wealth. Millions died because they wanted people to get back to the office and buying things. The people who got rich were entertainment and tech companies. The vaccine wasn’t developed because rich people knew what to do, it was done because the government paid companies to do it and let them keep the money. They then stopped people from getting access to good vaccines through intellectual property and patents, allowing them to get even more money.

Well yea, for example in my country some problem solvers got rich during COVID by overcharging the state for imports of medical and hygienic supplies, because our industrial network is so eroded due to globalization-relocalization that apparently we aren’t even able to manufacture some simple face masks anymore. Wealth accumulation never stops, even in a recessive scenario. It just gets accumulated in less hands. (Edit because bad english)

Wealth is not the problem. Individuals wielding wealth in a way that hurts the rest of us is the problem. Not all rich people are overtly evil. But some are, and acknowledging that seems like as good a place to start with a solution as any.
