Nothing says, “we’re definitely not planning to do some war crimes, and for sure no genocide” like banning people from telling the truth.
“Everybody leave Gaza because we’re gonna invade it to gain territory”
“Whoops I mean to stop terrorists”
You’re under arrest for reporting what I said
Its free real estate
They just want a little more Living Room.
It has nothing to do with territory, the Gaza strip isn’t even particularly good land outside of the water access. Moreover the land that was good agriculturally has been routinely blighted by Israelis, the last big one I remember was burning down 100+yr old olive trees and essentially salting the land.
Lol ah yes, territory being purely for agricultural or other means and not purely religiously “also this is our land and we want that sand”
Ugh, who would want that Gulag
Ben Givir and his armed fellowship of settlers apparently.
Haaretz reports that Karhi—a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud Party—is preparing draft emergency regulations titled “Limiting Aid to the Enemy through Communication” which would allow him to direct police to arrest any civilian, remove them from their home, and seize their property if he believes they have disseminated information that might harm national morale or be used as “enemy propaganda.”
The new regulations will apply to the general public as well as local and foreign media professionals—and will be applicable to both truthful and inaccurate reporting.
I mean, I guess they’re trending in the right direction since they normally just murder journalists in the street…
might harm national morale
Those in power that make these rules usually decide that speaking out against those in power is “harmful to morale”. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Hey, what year is it again? 1984, is that right?
Israeli right wing is so out of control they’re going to cause a third diaspora.
I see a pattern here…
One of the primary methods Hitler employed to control the media was censorship. Upon assuming power, he established the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.
The Ministry implemented strict censorship policies, ensuring that only content aligned with Nazi ideology was allowed to be disseminated. Any dissenting voices or information critical of the regime were met with threats of sovereign rights, property and freedom of speech suppressed, those who were found guilty were often eliminated altogether.
It’s honestly amazing how many strategies Israel adopted straight from the Third Reich’s playbook. I would say it is bitter irony, except it seems to be completely planned and intentional.
I’ve said it before, but I will say it again. Those who have been oppressed make the most effective oppressors.
Netanyahu’s political party, the Likud, were partially founded by members of Lehi. Including the first Likud Prime Minister.
Lehi was a Zionist Terrorist organization in Mandatory Palestine. Their main operations were political assassinations of any leader who supported the British, or opposed their ideal of a Jewish ethno-state. This included Jewish and Palestinian leaders.
They also took part in a few massacres of Palestinians, including raping women before killing them.
But the meat of this tangent is what they did during WW2. See, they really hated the British. So much so that they made multiple overtures to join WW2 on the side of the Nazis. They kept trying to join in until 1942. (and only stopped when the founder of Lehi died)
Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia talking about Lehi;
According to Yaacov Shavit, professor at the Department of Jewish History, Tel Aviv University, articles in Lehi publications contained references to a Jewish “master race”, contrasting the Jews with Arabs who were seen as a “nation of slaves”.[47] Sasha Polakow-Suransky writes that “Lehi was also unabashedly racist towards Arabs. Their publications described Jews as a master race and Arabs as a slave race.” Lehi advocated mass expulsion of all Arabs from Palestine and Transjordan,[48] or even their physical annihilation.[49]
Netanyahu’s early political career was directly mentored by former members of Lehi. It’s why he sabotaged the peace talks in the 90s.
Weirdly enough, I just responded to someone else who was talking about the inter-war and post war era in Palestine when you sent this. I felt this was important information to add to that discussion so I copied your response, included it there, and credited you.
“Never again” means different things to different people. To some it means it’s important to prevent the horrors of the Holocaust from ever happening again to anyone. To others it means it’s important to prevent it from happening to us.
I subscribe to the former view, though i am not Jewish myself so perhaps that plays a role.
Totally the move of a country with nothing to hide and definitely isn’t reaponsible for any atrocities. My question is why bother with laws when Isreal has already murdered multiple journalists this week with little outcry coming of it.
The only shocking thing is that its not already in the books.
Especially considering the videos in the past about IDF/Israeli Police harassing reporters and threatening them to report things to the benefit of Israel, instead of the truth.
Declarations of Lügenpresse and yellow
starcrescent badges probably arent far behind. This wasn’t already on the books? Well at least they aren’t just shooting them like they usually do.
That’s probably the backup plan…
The article has an embedded side-note indicating that the measure is unlikely to pass.
It doesn’t need to pass. Those people won’t see cells anyways. They’re going to be disappeared and it will be blamed on hamas.
Isn’t this what the liberals want? For government to be in charge of what we’re allowed to say?
